Obey – Women’s Spring 2011 Collection
Posted on February 4, 2011 by 10percent
Ok, so we’re seeing all the pumped up hype about Fairey’s new S/S 2011 men’s range, so now’s about time for a little love for the ladies.
These last couple of years have seen Obey’s style change from the much marketed off-the-asphalt and well known street / urban style to taking a more, and I hate to say it, ‘fashionable’ (sorry to all the balls that cringed then) approach, albeit an already done – to – death one. I personally like the direction for the brand, I’m not gonna wallow in the past and whine about losing any ‘street’ significance, especially when that same significance was lost when seeing OBEY slap stickers in my local CV store, and I reckon they’ve got the module down pat. I mean hey, Fairey’s a business now; I get it, cash rules.
On the other hand, those of you who are lauding the new range as ‘fresh’, ‘dope’, and ‘out-tha-box’ really only need to look at previous seasons to know it’s kinda been heading in the same direction – following the trends. Take a look around, they’re not really pushing the boundaries, it’s really just another potato in a sack.
Anyway. Women, huh? The season doesn’t really do it for me, I mean, apart from being a guy and all and trying to get into my femme ‘zone’, I really don’t find much that interests me. Other than some nice colours and a decent stylist I’m seeing something pretty stock standard. The cloth seems mostly the same in cut, and I know they’ve got their seasons style, but there are no pieces that really make me take notice. Ah well, maybe I’m missing the point.
Go here for a full reel.
In saying all this though, and I know I’m sitting with the fence fair up my arse, I’m still applauding something that’s been done well and do rate the more relaxed men’s look (If you haven’t seen it, go here).
Anyway, burgers and fries it’s all the same mayne. Go check it out and send OBEY some monies.
Peace obang.
