Triple J Like a Version Vol. 7
Posted on November 4, 2011 by jellybean
Some covers allow you to experience a song in a completely different light. They can give a song new life and expose deeper meanings. Others can completely slaughter the original and haunt you for the rest of your life.
I still haven’t recovered from Take That’s cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit (warning: video contains some obscenely tight leather pants and a serious lack of shirts). Thankfully, Triple J’s Like A Version seems to get it right most of the time.
They’ve provided me with some of my favourites over the years including Dancing Queen – Whitley, 99 Problems – Philadelphia Grand Jury, and No Surprises – Regina Spektor, and for this I am eternally grateful. They also supplied me with Urthboy’s version of London Calling for which I am not so grateful, but hey, they can’t all be winners. Like A Version Volume 7 is released today in the form of a cd/dvd set. Check out the track list for yourself:
