HabitsnContradictions

I was listening to some Kendrick Lamar yesterday and happened to accidentally play his Section.80 track The Spiteful Chant about five times, which gave me the opportunity to really listen to the featuring Schoolboy Q's impressive verse.

Anyway, because I had the verse in my head, I then decided to give Schoolboy Q's latest studio album Habits & Contradictions a good listen.

Like Kendrick Lamar, who is amazing by the way, Schoolboy Q is signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, so with that in mind I was ready for some dope beats.

Habits & Contradictions dropped midway through last month. The album includes 18 tracks (including an iTunes bonus), which features Jhené Aiko, Dom Kennedy, Curren$y, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and most notably ASAP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar. I thought the album was pretty decent from start to finish, providing some good beats with Schoolboy Q managing to capitalising on each of them.

My favourite tracks on the album would have to be Hands on the Wheel featuring ASAP Rocky, Raymond 1969 and of course Blessed featuring Kendrick Lamar. The two tracks with ASAP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar, respectively, were always going to be my top, but surly that wasn't a surprise. By the way, the Hands on the Wheel music video is a must watch.

My only criticism is that two or three tracks were a little boring, and without them the album would have be easier to listen to from start to finish. However, that's not to say that there are tracks that you could skip. I just mean that a few less tracks would have just made the album shorter and easy to concentrate on.

In conclusion, Habits & Contradictions is a very solid album, and is very much worth purchasing and listening to, especially if you're into K.Dot and Top Dawg Entertainment. I'm just glad I listened to that The Spiteful Chant joint enough times to grow an appreciation for Schoolboy Q. I'm definitely going to look out for his music from now on.

You can purchase yourself a digital copy of Habits & Contradictions from iTunes.
