Sydney’s most fashionable shopping precinct, The Intersection, Paddington, will make history this month by hosting the ‘Australian Walk of Style’ launch celebrations on Tuesday 21 February 2012.

The thriving Australian fashion industry will  be celebrated as five of the country’s most prolific designers are immortalised in brass plaques along Oxford Street; a project which has been years in the making and is vision of property developer Theo Onisforou with the support of Paddington Chamber of Commerce & Woollahra Municipal Council.

The first creatives celebrated on the Australian Walk of Style comprise Collette Dinnigan, Akira Isogawa, sass & bide, the late Mark Keighery founder of Marcs, and  the late R.M. Williams; all iconic designers who have shaped the Australian fashion industry and earned critical acclaim in their own country and overseas.

A refreshing, and exciting emphasis on the Australian design industry, taking the spotlight off International giants like Zara and Topshop who have recently graced our shores.

A further two designers will be immortalised in plaques each year in biannual celebrations with a total of 11 plaques planned over the next five years. Sydney joins the ranks of London, New York, Paris and Milan in celebrating its fashion heritage with a permanent landmark, which is planned to evolve and grow over the coming years.

The Intersection, Paddington and Oxford Street have a rich history as Sydney’s ‘garment district’, with many of the country’s fashion names starting out selling their creations in the area.

The spotlight will be on Oxford Street on Tuesday 21 February from 6.30pm - 8.30pm, as lighting displays shine down on the freshly-installed plaques surrounded by a luxurious red carpet. The country’s fashion royalty, media, and VIPs (including one of your PRIMO bros!) will be the first to view the Australian Walk of Style.
