Game @ Enmore Theatre

It was Friday night (last Friday) and it was time for Ladies&Gentleman, Rex and I to make our way over to the Enmore Theatre in Newtown to watch Game perform live. That's right, Game. Jayceon Terrell Taylor, one of the West Coast's finest rappers.

We turned up just before Game's DJ New Jersey Devil and Black Wall Street's Juice Mccain hit the stage, who hyped everyone up for the main event. Juice Mccain performed a couple of songs while New Jersey Devil did his thing on the turntables, playing bangers that surprisingly got the crowd rocking and held everyone over for long enough. Maybe it's because he played N****s in Paris?

As Game's set drew closer, New Jersey Devil decided to give the crowd a champagne shower, spraying a whole bottle into the crowd, which most us of in the media section (myself included) managed to dodge, except for L&G, who unfortunately seemed to cop a decent spray.

After all the hype and champagne, it was time for Game to do his thing, and as the Dr. Dre Intro played, he made his way through the smoke onto the stage to receive an all mighty cheer from all in attendance at the Enmore Theatre while wearing an extremely dope Los Angeles Kings jacket.

Game kicked things off with The City, which was certainly an appropriate opening track considering that he was in Australia for the The R.E.D Tour. He then moved on and played some of his most well known songs from The Documentary, Doctor's Advocate, LAX and of course The R.E.D. Album, mixing it up throughout the night.

Game started off so well and on point, and was absolutely amazing for the most part. However, as the concert drew closer to the end, he decided to invite people in the crowd who were wearing red apparel up on the stage for the song One Blood. This sounded pretty awesome in theory, but in practise it wasn't the best idea because it took too long for people to actually get on and off the stage. Once all that had happened, Game then invited all the females in attendance to join him on stage also, which again seemed to take too long. To be completely honest the end of the concert was a bit disappointing, particularly because the rest of it was really impressive. I only say this because there were pauses where New Jersey Devil played a few tracks that were not Game's material. I guess he did this to give Game a break? Either way, I think the concert would have worked better without other peoples tracks being played.

While the end of the concert was a little disappointing, it was still a rather amazing event. I was very pleased by it, and would certainly see Game live again. If Game didn't decide to invite fans up on stage, I think it would have been the perfect concert. Although, with that said, it was good to see that Game did make an effort to interact with his fans on a more personal level. So, I guess you have to commend him on that.

I thought the best tracks that he performed live were ComptonRickyMartians vs. Goblins and Put You on the Game, particularly Compton and Ricky, as he performed them both nice and early into his set. My only real disappointment was that he didn't perform Born In the Trap, which is, in my opinion, one, if not the best track on The R.E.D. Album. Maybe it was because DJ Premier wasn't there? That makes sense.

Anyway, in conclusion, I had a great time, and other than the time lost waiting for people to get on and off the stage, I thought it was a pretty legit gig. Game is my all-time favourite artist, and being able to see him live was a dream come true.

Thanks for coming to Australia, Game.

Be sure to check out all of the photos that Ladies&Gentleman took below. You can also check out Hit Up Adrian for a video of the night.

As always, enjoy!

  1. [...] Rex and I were lucky enough to watch Game perform live in Sydney, which you can read all about here. However, that's not what this article is about. I'm here to explain what Game is already planning. [...]
