FIVE ONLINE DOCUMENTARIES THAT YOU SHOULD WATCH

Posted on April 24, 2012 by OneEightKevin

I have recently discovered that procrastination is my single greatest talent in life. And what better way to exercise this talent than spending hours on end digging up some of the great documentaries that the internet has to offer.

Spending four years at university has really allowed me to work on my procrastination methods, and also find some totally weird/entertaining/messed up stuff that I never even knew existed.

If you’re sitting on an easy 56 words on that latest essay, take a quick break for four hours and have a watch.

5. GUYS AND DOLLS

Now this is one that’s probably going to make you feel really creeped out and uncomfortable. These guys spend thousands of dollars on the most life-like human replica dolls, live with them, talk to them and take them on dates. There’s even one guy called Davecat who gives his one foot massages. Beware, at one point they follow the guy who has the dream job of repairing these dolls, including replacing the doll’s vagina after it’s been pummelled and destroyed. This is an interesting watch to say the least.

4. JUST FOR KICKS

This one is for all the sneakerheads out there, and I know there’s alot of you dropping serious coin on the best colourways and cuts. There’s some fantastic stories on here – how Run DMC became the unlikely heroes for German sporting giant Adidas, how Nike and Michael Jordan turned the sneaker game on it’s head, and how one pair of Dunks caused riots in Manhattan. Furthermore, you can also get some great fashion tips and look like you walked straight out of a NYC Subway in the eighties. Stay fresh.

3. MY STRANGE ADDICTION: DATING MY CAR/BABY POWDER ADDICT

This is a great television series of short documentaries following the lives of people with some unusual habits. In this episode, we watch Nathaniel, a man who is in a relationship with his car Chase. Click to find out about how he makes love to Chase, and watch a series of close-up shots of him making out with the bonnet. Then we have Jaye, a girl who loves sniffing white powder. But this girl isn’t addicted to cocaine like a normal person. She’s spent the past 16 years snorting 5 pounds of baby powder a day. Heavy scenes. Furthermore, the person who uploaded this documentary onto YouTube has a username that reads ‘JesusIsAFucker.’

2. LOUIS THEROUX AND THE NAZIS

If there’s anybody as awesome and awkward as Louis Theroux, I’ve yet to see them. This is one of my favourite documentaries that he’s hosted for the BBC, and a real insight into some of the intense racism that still plagues modern society. Watch this for Louis’ deliciously humorous banter, and the particularly intense scene where he won’t reveal to a Nazi whether he’s Jewish or not. Louis’ got balls.

1. THE VICE GUIDE TO TRAVEL: LIBERIA

VICE do it again with this chaotic trip into Liberia. Highlights include an interview with General Butt Naked, a dude who used to fight battles in his birthday suit, while his soldiers would kill an innocent child and drink their blood before going to war. This is close to the most intense thing I have ever seen, and will make all your first-world problems seem miniscule. There’s plenty of grime and gore, so you probably shouldn’t watch this while your eating your macaroni and cheese. Also check out the documentary when VICE head to North Korea, which makes for excellent viewing.
