Safari 1

Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’

The Nike Air Trainer 1 celebrates its 25th year of existence in true tropical style.

1987 was a revolutionary year for Nike. It was the year Phil Knight upped the ante and set the industry alight with a slew of releases (including the first shoe with visible ‘AIR’ bags) that would stamp Nike as the brand to be both revered and feared by anyone else trying to do the same thing.

The Trainer 1 was Nike’s first athletic cross-training shoe and was instantly a huge success.

Following this, Nike developed more technical versions but the Trainer 1 remained the clear-cut favourite and best seller. The original pair was actually reissued in the mid 1990′s, way before retro releases became the in thing.

In this upcoming release, you’ll see two classics from ’87 come together as one. The Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ combines the Nike Air Trainer 1 in the historic Air Safari ’87 colour scheme, resulting in straight up freshness.

Nothing really needs to be said about the safari print – it stands out like you know what but it works a treat, and more importantly, it’s iconic.

The orange leather interior lining, the black synthetic leather panel, the perforated toe box and the classic strap all make for a dope shoe that’s sure to have kids going nuts.

No release date has been set in stone as of yet, but expect these to drop soon. Check out some more angles below.
