VIDEO: adistar Racer | Make Moves | Beni

“I’m a very curious motherfucker.”

A few weeks back, adidas invited us into their Westfield Sydney store to preview the Make Moves campaign, and the adistar Racer.

We made the point of how kick-ass it was that fellow local creatives are being recognised – and we’ll make the same point again if we want to, dammit. This time, with video.

To celebrate the release of the adistar Racer heritage trainer, the Make Moves campaign follows the lives of four influential Australian creatives and the moves they are making: DJ Beni Single, paper engineer Benja Harney, award winning chef Mitch Orr and typographer and graphic artist Luca Ionsecu.

Producer and DJ, Beni’s been that way since the beginning, too, from the formidable years spent watching his father perform to the genre-jumping Avalanches gig that inspired the producer to pick up turntables and sharpen his DJ skills on school days.

“I was horrible at first,” he admits, “trying to put rap, disco and funk together without realizing that a 94 BPM track isn’t going to go with a 125 one.”

The Sydney native kept at it, though, tightening his sets until they became fluid blends of decade-spanning dance music. The bricks that built the House of Beni, if you will.

“Just do what you love, and do it for the right reason. I mean, if this wasn’t my job I’d still be doing it.”

After two US tours, Beni is back on Australian soil and gearing up for a string of dates in support of current single ‘Last Night’.

Beni is on tour currently with Digitalism and Groove in the Moo.
