Olympic Ayres – Episode II

Posted on June 7, 2012 by Rex

Episode II is the second instalment from Olympic Ayres duo Kamaliza and mmiiddii.

These new recordings saw the duo step out of the attic, home to their previous recordings and into a real life studio to polish off the tracks with Dann Hume (Lisa Mitchell, Tin Sparrow, Alpine).

Episode II evolves their electric dance sound and aids to understanding their Mighty Boosh reference to being ‘genre spanners’.

The View, their first single from the EP was released last month, and I lapped it up. The synth-pop sounds had us wiggling in our chairs, smiling ear-to-ear and the rap-talking vocal chorus was free of any distinct accent or social clichés. I’d love to hear some more rap from vocalist Kamaliza, but we’re a biased audience.

It’s not surprising single The View has landed them loads of airtime. It’s catchy, and you feel instantly affiliated with the band – like you’ve listened to them forever.

Second track River Song continues the uplifting vibe, with reggae undertones it’s a fusion of all things good.

The last track on the EP Lose You is my favourite. It’s slower in pace, and offers a vulnerability that the first two don’t. I’m a lyrical chick, so the journey, the romance and the looooove in the songs contrasted with the dancey beats had me from the first note.
