Nike Air Yeezy II Raffle at Espionage Sydney

Posted on June 13, 2012 by L&G

3 years after the release of the Nike Air Yeezy, the Nike Air Yeezy II pulled triple the crowd of its predecessor, thus giving us sneaker heads one third of the chance to cop a pair. Fuck you, popularity. Fuck you right off.

We were drip fed information from December, May and June and whilst we can acknowledge the growth in the sneaker game, we couldn’t have anticipated the 400-500 strong line we met when we arrived at the Espionage Goulbourn St store.

Rex worked her magic snapping the line, as long time collectors found her no threat in her Missoni x Cons, as there were some serious heat on peoples feet, ranging from Air Yeezy 1′s, Jordan III’s and a guy in quite possibly the best shoes of all time – The Nike Air Mag’s. Two long necks later (something had to take the edge off of us) and we were ticked off the list, wrist banded and clutching our raffle tickets we headed for the free beer. A claustrophobes worst nightmare realised, we stood person on person trying not to step on anybody’s toes. Literally.

After some MC-ing from some guy who’s name I didn’t catch and have no intention of finding out, some Hip-Hop classics, some hype around Joel Madden arriving (which we never saw) and finally, they started drawing the raffles.

Lucky bastard after lucky bastard yelped in sheer fucking joy as they copped a pair, and we stood at the back positively burning.

We were then informed one pair of Air Yeezy II (in the wolf grey colour way, size 9) would be live auctioned. Espionage owner B2 vouched to double whatever was raised and all proceeds would be donated to Westmead Childrens Hospital – that certainly sounds better than paying $90K to some prick on eBay.

The bidding started at $1.

It quickly jumped to $1 000, and became a heated bidding war between two. Things got super intense from here on in, as the bidding war started to get cray between a young asian dude, and Sydney’s Don of sneakers. You know, the guy that is at every single launch? Such a legend, who we are super glad won eventually at the winning price of $2 800, raising a total of $5 600.

To be honest, I was pretty dirty about us not winning a pair of our own, but hey, we found solace in the donation and the fact that the man with sneaker royalty getting his own pair… Kinda.

Check the images below for a quick visual wrap-up of the event.

Special thanks goes out to Espionage for putting on such an awesome night.
