Maestriland by Andrea Maestri

Posted on June 19, 2012 by Rex

If the ‘Fuck You’ lamp, and use of Jesus as table legs are anything to go by, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to furniture designer Andrea Maestri.

His debut collection hints that the marriage between humour and interiors shall be a long lasting one. Salvador Dali‘s iconic lip sofa can’t compete with lips hung on the wall. Jeff Skierka‘s Mixtape coffee table suddenly seems more conventional than kitsch.

The self released collection contains undeniable humor (or perhaps some good ol’ Italian sacarsm. I can’t help but feel that he’s having a hearty Milanese laugh that we’re lapping this up world-wide.)

Maestri has fused urban culture with erotic and religious themes, and a dismissal of the idea that form follows function. The designs values are purely aesthetic, feature high manufacturing qualities and would look at home in some of the finest interiors in the world. Or in our office.

I’m not even going to talk about the dick cupboard. Make what you will of that.
