Bringing the New Balance 420 Back!

Posted on June 28, 2012 by SeñorRoboto

The more and more I frequent areas in Sydney like Surry Hills & Redfern, the more I see people rocking the New Balance 420s.

Now… Unless, it has secretly become cool to mimic an overweight pensioner with a fondness for owning a tonne of cats. I like to believe that it is still a faux pas to own a pair of these bad boys.

However, before a hail storm of scepticism over my opinions begin to rain in, let me just state this!

If you truly have an obsession for shoes that can rivals that even your girlfriends’, You are usually a shoe snob.

New Balance have never been cool. They were the kicks that your mum bought you because the Nike 87′s were too expensive.

 *they weren’t!

With this said, I always end up being swept along with fashion trends, no matter how long I try to hold out. So I thought, I may as well pre-plan how I can mould one of these monstrosities into my wardrobe.

When approaching an article of clothing that is borderline welfare issue, one can only help but avoid the blander options that are placed before you. I make this suggestion purely in the hope that using brighter colours will distract anyone from actually noticing that they are in fact a pair of New Balance kicks!

I may have been a little premature, in totally writing off these kicks as nothing more than a pair of hideous scraps of leather. For the more I encounter these clumsy/dopey eyed pair of kicks, the more I become somewhat enchanted by them. It’s like looking at a baby pug and then that instant that the ugliness turns into torrents of adorable appeal.

Now if you were to do the unmentionable and buy yourself a pair of these aesthetically charming shoes, then you would most certainly want to plan the rest of your outfit around them.

My suggestion would be to pick up a pair of the Carhartt “Ziggy Pant” in black, then compliment them with any plain ‘Moss Green’ or ‘Grey’ T-Shirt. Considering that our current climatic situation would accommodate most creatures from the Antarctic; I would also advise you also enjoy the suave Carhartt Men’s Waterproof Breathable Coat in black. Finally, to make the outfit a little more interesting you could throw in the New Era Original 2 Tone 9Fifty Snapback Cap, with it’s earthy tones it would be the perfect selection to round off the outfit.

If you followed the instructions, you now have an outfit to impress any dame that thinks fashion is of some importance.

*quite common

Initially my stance toward the New Balance 420 was quite firm. However, the more I look at this black swan of a shoe, the more I can’t help but fall into a torrid love affair with them. Sure, I probably won’t scream from the roof tops about them, but the New Balance 420s are definitely going to have pride and place in my shoe collection from now on.

Forever Yours
