Video: Givenchy AW12 Campaign

Posted on June 28, 2012 by Rex

Androgyny is just one of the features of Riccardo Tisci’s latest Givenchy campaign. So, would you rock it?

Riccardo Tisci. He’s the man who got Yeezy in a kilt, designed the album cover for Jigga and Kanye’s ‘Watch the Throne’ and is fascinated by goths and space-age minimalism. So, he’s alright hey? Right?

The new campaign seems to capture elements of rave culture, both in its ensembles and frozen movement. It almost feels like it could feature Yolandi Visser and Ninja of Die Antwoord, if there were a few more “fuck you”s and smiley faces. And perhaps they would have added to the credibility.

Whilst I’m not denying Tisci is a cool guy, something about this all still feels a little manufactured to me. It’s like seeing a high profile Socialite forgoing designer shoes for kicks because of a new boyfie *coughthekardash* – it’s fishy and unnatural. Or perhaps it’s the fact for the most part, these looks and unobtainable to you and I.

The accompanying video makes you want to rip of your squillion dollar Givenchy outfit and disappear into the night, appearing in the afternoon days after. Whilst it’s looks are far more sophisticated than anything I’ve seen at Spice Cellar, it’s certainly got the sound.
