HIP-HOP DOCS

Posted on July 26, 2012 by LiteMoteef

Hip-Hop head? Got a lotta free time? I’ve dropped some docos below, that are definitely worth watching.

1. Rhyme Spitters 1 (2004)

First of four films online that document the Chicago-based, Freestyling MC Tournament between ’04 – ’07.

Thing is, it was great to have playing in the background, ‘cos although the video coverage ain’t bad, it’s not the reason you watch it. Other problem is the audio ain’t always great either.

Nonetheless, gotta respect some of these guys, especially the gutsy kid in 9th grade who battles the bigger boys and the dude who lost the battle, but goes with his crew at around 47min.

You can watch the rest of their stuff @ rhymespitters.com

2.  Scratch (2001)

Pretty sweet – although dated – doco on DJing, Bronx to San Fran. Check it around 15min – my God…

Anyway, this is a fairly comprehensive documentary and I recommend it to any dude with some time on their hands.

3. Rhyme and Reason (1997)

Man, all the stuff I’m playing is old school, or at least near a decade old, but hey, everyone needs a history lesson now and then, and this list is good.

Rhyme and Reason ain’t no exception.

It’s chocker with great interviews, featuring Dr Dre and A Tribe Call Quest, as well as Ice-T – who better to finish with than him? Considering his upcoming doco Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap.
