A Week in Tunes

Posted on September 21, 2012 by Textbook

Welcome to A Week in Tunes, a new weekly post dropping towards the end of the week to give you, the reader, a number of top (recent) tracks to enjoy. So, whether you’re chillin’ out with a few friends on Friday night, or getting turnt up on Saturday night, these hand picked tracks should give you some tunes to listen to while doing so.

Fabolous – So NY

Textbook: Despite no release date for Loso’s Way 2: Rise to Power, New York’s Fabolous has dropped some new material. “So NY” somewhat has a go at Weezy after he recently stated that he doesn’t like New York. Standing up for his city, Fabolous’ “So NY” hook goes as follows: “I’m so New York, Weezy probably don’t like me.” Not major diss record or anything, but still… Just Fab standing up for his city and spitting some quality bars.

L&G: In my opinion, Fabulous peaked back in 2001 with Ghetto Fabolous, and that ridiculous track “Trade It All” (I freaking love that track.) This track isn’t too bad though. At least I learnt that Fab is actually from New York… For some reason I was under the impression he was from the South? As the saying goes, you learn something new every day.

Waka Flocka Flame feat. Gucci Mane – 50K

Textbook: We love Waka Flocka Flame here at PRIMO! magazine, so of couse he was going to appear in the first edition of A Week in Tunes. Off his new mixtape Salute Me or Shoot Me 4, Waka connects with his Ferrari Boyz teammate, Gucci Mane, for a classic track filled with ignorant rap. No doubt L&G and OneEightKevin are all over “50K” and the rest of his new mixtape. I mean, how could you not be? It’s Wake Flocka Flame. FLEX! BRICK SQUAD!

L&G: MY BOY WAKA GETTING IT DONE!! Here he is back with the ignorant of ignorance; Gucci Mane. Do you remember Ferrari Boyz?! That shit was off the freakin’ hook! All I remember was being at the Flinders on a Wednesday losing my shit at it. This is classic Waka. Fuck, such a trap track. Love it.

Kid Cudi – Creepers

Textbook: A massive dark horse on G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer. ”Creepers” is legit. Kid Cudi needs no G.O.O.D. assistance for this track. It’s straight up Cudder doing his thing as if he was still in his Man on the Moon zone. Despite Kid Cudi only appearing on Cruel Summer twice, he certainly makes up for it on “Creepers.” A dope hook and even doper verses. “Creepers” just so happens to be one of my favourite Cruel Summer tracks, too. Man, Cudi’s voice is out of this world.

L&G: So glad Cudi is back to rapping. This track is dope as shit! How bad was that album? What was it called again? WZRD or some shit? Yeah, that’s right. Some ‘shit’. Such a piece of an album. Worst ever. What I love about Cudi is his voice. Straight up ballin! What also blows me away, is how he got a whole track to himself on the new Cruel Summer album. I heard from Textbook that he only appears twice in the album. Heavy.

Rihanna feat. A$AP Rocky – Cockiness (Remix)

Textbook: Most people now know this track because Rhianna and A$AP Rocky performed it at the MTV Music Video Awards… Oh, and A$AP Rocky squeezed Rhianna’s ass on stage after his verse. What a legend. As for the track itself, it gives you the best of both worlds. Rap from Rocky and some quality Rhi Rhi. Collaborations like these are always an enjoyable listen.

L&G: A$AP has… Peaked. This song is stink. I will remember A$AP squeezing Rhianna’s boot-ay instead of this track. Good luck with your new album, A$AP. This song has done nothing for you apart from losing cred from L&G.

Kanye West, Pusha T & Ghostface Killah – New God Flow

Textbook: This Cruel Summer track was released as single quite some time ago. However, when it appeared on the G.O.O.D. Music album this week, it was extended and included an extra verse from non other than Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah. Along with “Creepers,” this was one of my favourite tracks on Cruel Summer. I was a huge fan of it when it was first released, and now with an extra verse from Ghostface… Amazing! ‘Ye, Pusha T and Ghostface have certainly put together a flawless track. A track that is this week’s best.

L&G: This track is amazing, and it is much better than the original version I heard without Ghostface. Dare I say, Ghostface made it better? Yeah, of course he does as Ghostface is OG as fuck. So many ridiculous claims in this song too. Supposedly Pusha T is a God, and Kanye two shoes have jumped over Jordan’s whole plethora of kicks. Yeah, righto guys. Goodluck with that.
