Mike Giant has recently released Eternal, a scholarly and visual monograph showcasing his life and talents, and holy dick does this dude have some talents.

Well known and highly regarded for his iconic style that manifests itself in every medium of his art, Mike Giant has established a presence that has made him a leader in the tattoo, graffiti, and illustration realms. No matter what Giant turns his hand to, his diverse mix of influences are evident.

And those influences are as diverse as it gets.

Mike Giant’s work regularly features Catholic symbolism, hip-hop, skate, rave and san-fran-fixie culture, Chicano gang hand styles as well as graffiti and traditional typography.

This book serves as not only an ultimate collection of his work, but also a history and insight into the mans life and career. Featuring written pieces from friends and colleagues including his buddy and co-founder at Rebel 8, Joshy D. Giant accompanies his work with text that does not serve to explain the pieces but rather contextualise himself as the person responsible for the piece, hence giving context to the work itself. If you’re still with me, and are excited about this dude as I am, get your hands on a copy of this ASAP as possible. You’ll probably have to trawl the likes of Amazon and eBay to get your hands on a copy, but I’m pretty sure it will be worth it.

A lot can be said about creative genius Pharrell Williams. The Neptunes and N*E*R*D member is a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, fashion designer and is the man behind Billionarie Boys Club and i am OTHER.

Pharrell has almost done it all. More recently featuring on Daft Punk’s new hit record, “Get Lucky,” as well as releasing his book, Pharrell: Places and Spaces I’ve Been, last year. And now, Pharrell continues to do great work, introducing Creative Growth.

Based in Oakland, the Creative Growth Art Center provides both mentally and physically disabled artists with a space to work and develop in a social atmosphere among peers, and is a place that Skateboard P is obviously interested in.

Creative Growth

Presented by i am OTHER, filmmaker Cheryl Dunn documents Creative Growth, working with several artists to broadcast their amazing work.

First, however, Pharrell Williams himself introduces the Creative Growth series, while talking about the importance of art, growth and opportunity.

You can watch the series shot by Cheryl Dunn over at i am OTHER or on YouTube, and can also learn more about Creative Growth Art Center by visiting their website.

In addition, those interested in Creative Growth might want to check out the somewhat related article and review of Sydney’s I-Manaifestival.

Remember yesterday when I wrote about Supreme suing Married to the Mob, and how Barbara Kruger should jump in and sue Supreme? Well, now the legend herself has weighed in on the whole situation and the lawsuit against Married to the Mob.

There has been massive uproar on how Supreme is suing Leah McSweeney because her streetwear brand Married to the Mob for a ridiculous $10 million USD. It is claimed that James Jebbia – Founder of Supreme is suing McSweeney for one of her founding designs, saying that it is copyrighted to Supremes trademarked rights.

Married to the Mob’s “Supreme Bitch” tee

Like mentioned, the design in question is Married to the Mob’s “Supreme Bitch” t-shirt, which since its introduction in 2004, has become the hallmark design for the Married to the Mob brand, and could be noted as the catalyst for the brands success.

What I thought was funny, is that Supreme had completely ripped off Barbara Krugers design. The logo is a blatant rip-off, even though they may say they used it as ‘referential’ piece. The Futura-font-on-red is pretty much that. A rip-off.

Now, we have Barbara weigh in on the events of yesterday, with a statement that makes Supreme look like a bunch of idiots. Keep in mine that Barbara Kruger is now 68 years old, and raised a good point about what originality in artwork really is.

It makes you wonder if there is a hidden agenda somewhere in all of this. Maybe its more than meets the eye? Guess we will have to see.

So we thought we would get in touch with Andrew Johnstone and Murray Bell, the founders of this event, amongst other things, to ask them a few questions about Semi-Permanent.

Can you talk a little about the vision for Semi-Permanent and what people can expect to take away from the event?

Semi-Permanent is about inspiring and enabling creativity. The speakers are all very talented people who have all taken unique paths to become who they are. Our audience is not only inspired by that, but also given an idea of the different paths they may themselves want to take. Regardless of your career level you will always walk away refreshed and with some new ideas.

What are you anticipating will be some of the highlights from Semi-Permanent 2013?

It’s really hard to answer this as we’ve always found that the highlights are generally the last people you expect. Sometimes the younger more up-and-coming speakers surprise you with their passion and shine out above speakers who you may think will be highlights.

What’s the biggest obstacle in putting together such a massive event, especially now that it’s international?

Like most large projects the main issue is just time. Finding the time to be able to get everything done. We have a small very dedicated team who all work really hard to make sure the events go off without a hitch. Which thankfully they generally do!

What can you tell us about +20 and Google’s involvement in the project?

+20 is a great initiative that allows 20 lucky, and talented, young creatives to be mentored by industry professionals. It’s really invaluable to be able to have that one-one-one contact with these mentors when you’re a young creative looking to get ahead. We were lucky enough to get the support of Google as a partner on the Los Angeles and Sydney +20 this year.

Semi-Permanent is now in it’s 11th year and has evolved dramatically since it’s beginnings, where do you see the event another decade or so down the track?

Great question. Maybe we’ll all be watching speakers whilst hovering in jet-packs after arriving in our flying cars. Seriously though, I think the event will be bigger and better. We are always looking at ways to improve on what we do and add more ways for our audience to collaborate so we’ll work hard on pushing everything forward.

Andrew and Murray have their hands in many other projects including Design is Kinky, which is most definitely worth a look through.

Semi-Permanent’s Sydney leg will be held on the 24th and 25th of May so remember to get your tickets ASAP as possible before the early bird sale ends. Get them direct from the source at semipermanent.com

Now being hosted not only in Sydney, but also in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Wellington, New York, Portland, London and Hong Kong, this beast is showing no signs of slowing down.

A highlight for me is surely going to be Beastman who recently kitted out Ambush Gallery where we attended I-Manifestival last month. Check out the line up of super talented speakers below…

Apple have collaborated with Volkswagen to create the iBeetle, and Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave.

I just don’t get it? I understand Apple is a forward-thinking company with regards to design and practically dominating the mobile and pc market, but why in the world would they team up with Volkswagen to create this? It has nothing to do with their market?

The collaborative effort between Volkswagen and Apple dubbed iBeetle was first exhibited at this years Shanghai Auto Show, and features premium leather throughout the entire interior, and your usual mockup of what a Beetle looks like and feels.

Where things get interesting, is what Apple brings to the table, with a drivers iPhone being completely utilized throughout, as the car’s dashboard includes a specially-designed docking station, along with a unique iPhone application and access to Spotify, Expert, Trainer, Postcard, Photo, and Milestones. These features do everything from offering extended dashboard functions, to one’s phone allowing users to share route preferences, locations, and photos via social media. – In other words, a whole lotta nothing.

Volkswagen has yet to release pricing or even availability with regards to the iBeetle, so hopefully they never do. Something has to be said about where Apple is going with this. Sure the iPhone is an awesome piece of technology, but not so much that it can be used to what they want to do with it in a car.

What a waste.

It is a well-known scientific fact that exposure to Nike advertising will help you succeed at all facets of life.

Nike doesn’t just sell shoes anymore. They sell belief in yourself, and they sell it in the most stylish way possible. I love advertising, and no one does it better than Nike. So, bookmark this page and open it up whenever you need to get motivated for the week at work, a hectic gym sesh or to ask out that hot girl you always see at the supermarket (hot girls at the supermarket are ever-present in my life). Here’s my top five pieces of timeless Nike advertising.

1. Yesterday You Said Tomorrow

I admit, I did say this yesterday.

Nike advertising doesn’t get much better than this. Look at it, there’s not even a brand name on there, just the famous swoosh and slogan. This was published in Times Square a couple of years back and was conceived by agency W&K. There’s really no better way to sum up what “Just Do It” is all about. Man, I’m already feeling guilty about skipping that run yesterday. I probably need a new pair of Free Runs.

2. “Run” Bench

No one’s gonna sleep on this bench tonight.

This is one of my favourite pieces of ambient advertising, ever. Once again, nothing needed further than a logo. It’s such a simple, brilliant idea. These can be found in various parks in major US cities, often next to real park benches. The guilt’s just piling on here.

3. Air Jordan

This is one of the original Air Jordan ads from way back in the day. Watching His Airness dunk, you could be forgiven for thinking that he could in fact, turn gravity on and off- suck it, Isaac. Here’s another picture, just because.

In this image from the bowels of the internet, Mike is dunking on a tank, a stock photo of a woman and Clifford, the big red dog.

4. What Are You Training For?

One of the few structures not actually damaged by the Christchurch earthquake.

I don’t know much about this ad, and it was a little difficult to find any information on it- all I know is it is from New Zealand. Doesn’t mean I can’t like it still though, even if I don’t know what that machine does. Seriously, does anyone know? What the hell is that bloke doing? What is he training for? Did this billboard just get meta?

5. Nike Unicef Treadmill

I hope it’s bolted down.

Scoring full points for interactivity, agency BBDO set this one up in Argentina in preparation for a 10km charity race for UNICEF. Anyone passing by could have a run on the treadmill and log some kilometres. With each kilometre chalked up on the communal counter, Nike donated a set amount to UNICEF. It’s such a brilliant concept that gets the community spirit going; your running doesn’t only help you, it helps those less fortunate. If Nike Advertising were a man, he would be a good bloke.

View Video

Brooklyn has got to be the coolest city out.

Only the hipster-fixie-idiots that liked Brooklyn first, now have a somewhat ironic distaste for the city.

Brooklyn has a lot going for it as the breeding ground of countless hip hop greats. It also boasts an overrated basketball team and a homicide rate that is 0.02% higher than NYC. All this takes the cites OG status level well over 300. If only The Great Flocka Flame claimed it as his territory, I’d probably have to relocate.

So here’s yet another cultural piece that is contributing to Brooklyn’s swag. The Brooklyn Brewery Mash is basically a travelling festival celebrating many things, but mostly beer. A promotional piece has been created for the event by filmmakers Landon Van Soest and Paul Trillo. The boys have stuck about 3000 images together to create a refreshingly different stop motion clip that showcases the beautiful city.

Check the video out, and if you’re lucky enough to be in any of the 11 cities welcoming the event, check that out too, ya bish.

Jay Shells is a graphic designer and hip-hop enthusiast, who hit the streets of New York City for his latest project titled, “Rap Quotes.”

Shells’ love of hip-hop inspired the project, as he documented himself putting up over 30 signs at site-specific locations around New York relevant to the quotes on each sign.

New York rappers such as GZA, Big Daddy Kane, Big L, Jeru the Damaja, Mos Def, Jay-Z, Jim Jones, the list goes on… Jay Shells wanted people to know when they’re on a corner or street that is called out by in a rap song. And although Shells knows that the signs probably won’t last, and will either get taken down by authorities or possibly stolen, he doesn’t mind. As he says in the film, “It’s his gift to you.” Documenting the project was enough for him.

An awesome project indeed. I hope the signs do stay up and no one steals them. But either way, the idea and execution behind this project is absolutely genius. So well done, Jay Shells.

Holy shit, these photos are amazing.

And not only are they absolutely amazing, but they are borderline boner inducing. British Fashion photographer Nick Knight has taken these incredible images of Americas ‘it’ couple of 2013; Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for L’Officiel Homme magazine, with absolutely great results. The set of photos are a mix of both greyscale and colour, and shows the two embraced in an extremely flirtatious manner (heart racing for some), while the other images concentrate more on Yeezy’s ever evolving style. Just check that gold necklace. It is <del>off the chain</del> crazy good!

It seems as though Yeezy has been busy of late. First, we were blessed with his ridiculous rants that had made some serious waves around the Internet, as well has Kim and Kanye’s kid which is on the way. With this photoshoot out of the way, it will be good to see just how hard in the paint Yeezy will go over the next few months.

Kim however… Well… With little talent and a TV show that will surely lose it’s appeal sooner or later, at least can rest assured that shie has Ye’s coattails to keep her relevant. Also the fact that she is smoking hot helps a hell of a lot too.

WONDERWALLS artist Rone gave Wollongong a face.

As a Wollongong native, there’s a warm rush of pride that moved through me when I saw these images.

WONDERWALLS was a three day art festival that took place last weekend in Wollongong, featuring some of Australia’s most well known, Low Brow artists. There was a series of small and large scale murals being painted around Wollongong, in addition to an exhibition and a panel discussion.

Presenting Rone with one of the biggest walls they could find, he had free reign to create whatever he wanted.

The result was not graffiti, but street art and is definitely our favourite of the many talented artists which took place. Making use of the brick facade, it acted as shading on her face.

The beautiful woman, painted on the wall with Mona Lisa-esque eyes could melt the heart of the most law-abiding, graffiti-disapproving Citizen.

As if Germany wasn’t already cool enough. Seriously. It’s got Berlin, and is home to our Creative Director-at-large. Just about every person I know who’s been to Berlin could name 100 reasons to stay indefinitely.

COLAB have joined forces with street artist ABOVE, who has designed a sleek frame, featuring his signature arrow in two colour ways.

ABOVE’s identity is unknown, and he has been creating public art since 1995. His most recognisable work is his spinning wooden arrow mobile installations. More recently his focus has shifted to large scale text based word play murals.

He named his unisex frames after his favourite holiday destination: the ‘Rio De Janiero’.

I, for one, have been a huge advocate of how good they are, and continually marvel when I play a song I haven’t heard in a while through my Beats Pro. It seriously puts a whole new take on music when listened through a pair of beats.

I have always wondered how it would sound through normal speakers, or how it would sound on one of those HP laptops that have ‘Beats Technology’ inside. Has anyone actually heard them? Comment below if you have.

Today however, we have a new introduction into the Beats By Dre line, with what has been dubbed “The Pill”. Meant to offer the big sound of the signature headphones in a compact, portable speaker package, the wireless Pill features both auxiliary input and output via standard 3.5 mm connections while also offering Bluetooth capabilities for connections of up to 30 feet with any enabled device. This will help a ton if you are roaming the house listening to “Forgot About Dre”, or “What’s the Difference”.

A nice little touch on this device, is an internal microphone allows for easy conference calls no matter the location, and the accompaniment of a USB 2.0 charge/data cable and AC power adapter. I guess these guys thought of everything.

The Pill is now available online from Beats By Dr. Dre for $199.95 USD in either black, red or white.

The Glock 9 packaging is the first installment from the collaborative companies BTB and PX-AC.

These two designers with skate and street backgrounds come together to produce a unique and new way to package skate bearings in order to stand out from big name competitors.

Collective Consciousness aim to appeal to the hardcore skate community, something they successfully achieve, with the sketched & hand constructed conceptualized look & feel of the glock handgun, brass knuckles and switch blade.

Here at PRIMO! we shot a showcase of the construction and production of Collective’s ball bearing packaging process. You can find more about the company and see their products in full here.

Akomplice and artist David Flores have teamed up once again to create a range of curated printed tees.

Following the succes of their collaborative work in the past, Akomplice and David Flores have created a new series of tees.

The Fall t-shirt collection features designs that Flores fans will recognize. The series — conceptually similar to that of Deer Dana, but less hipster — pays homage to classic movie stars, loveable childhood cartoons, athletes and rockers.

Available in an array of colours, you’ve got the option of a classic white printed tee or to mix it up with reds, blues, pinks and greys.

The full collection will be made available at the Akomplice webstore October 6th, at the stroke of midnight. While you’re at it, check out the Akomplice for President Fall lookbook.

The first exhibition curated by The Dirt will be held at new Surry Hills gallery m2 gallery and comes complete with promise of defying the authorities.

The exhibition features a group of 5 street artists, who’ve come up locally in Sydney. Conceptually based on the Beatles song “Happiness is a Warm Gun“, you can expect some stylistically unconnected art brought together in a way you’ll only know if you see it.

RSVP on Facebook and make sure you get down there between 6-9pm on Saturday September 15th to enjoy some Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, live music and support the work of local artists:

Last night, all originals put on a group exhibition celebrating the vitality of female artists working as collectives and collaborators called IN SYNTHESIS.

Firstly, it is probably best to note that I went into the event not knowing what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised with the talented artists on show. A huge amount of people turned out for the event, with members of the PRIMO! magazine team rocking up to show our support.

Overwhelmed with the turn out (actually, to be honest it’s more thanks to the fact that OneEightKevin, Zilla and I accidentally wore Nike sneakers to an adidas event. Yeah, we are those guys), we decided to take refuge on the top floor next to an art piece made entirely of 6 months worth of garbage bags. Insane, right? We ended up drinking beers, enjoyed the art, while all along, dropped awesome banter with whoever wanted to stand near us and chat.

Don’t really know what I am talking about? It would actually probably be best if I let adidas explain it:

“Like the partnerships that spawned the work, the exhibition acts as if an alloy; the unification of ideas and persons being stronger than the sum of each part. The art works chosen illuminate an ambitious and diverse group of contemporary artists working in process driven disciplines from installation, performance, sound, sculpture and video… With unified action and a space for exploration IN SYNTHESIS celebrate women in art and the communities they create.”

Amazing, right? Yeah, it was. If you missed it, we took some photos and made a short video – to make the pain and regret of not being there a little easier.

Enjoy!

After writing FUKT IN SYDNEY, we were lucky enough to be contacted by the man himself. I took the opportunity to hit the Newtown-based artist with Qs I’ve had, passing his concrete canvases.

PRIMO! magazine: What kind of artist are you?

FUKT: I wouldn’t label myself an artist, I have to make a clear dinstinction from that label, or any other type of label (street artist, vandal, culture jammer).

I don’t have much artistic skills at all, my technique comes from years of working in the advertising industry, which is (at least as far as I can tell) why I started doing what I do. Ten years of looking at the same banal crap would have that effect on anyone.

It’s my way of atoning for my sins (or offsetting them) after years of creating mind-numbing shit.

A stenciling newb stands before you – what 3 tools should he roll you for? Any street etiquette to which s/he should abide?

I hate stencil artists, most probably tell them to fuck off back to the gallery. The reason stencils became popular is that they were very fast to put up, nowadays it’s about slaving away for hours on end, trying to recreate a piece of art that looks like a photo (why not just buy a photo).

It’s like going to Kmart to get some photos developed and it takes 2 months and then you get charged 2 or 3 grand for the work which is basically shit. Stencil art today is the worst kind of art for art’s sake.

So some of your pieces are pretty playful and just take the piss, but others seem to function as social commentary – was wondering if you could tell us a bit about ‘Best We Forget’ and the ‘IKEA’ pieces?

I’m not the most subtle person in the world, the work I create is for the average person… easy to understand, simple and to the point. I usually don’t create an artist spiel about my work, I just put it up and anyone can interpret it any way they may feel.

One thing I’ve noticed with people in general is that if you give a person freedom to interpret then reception to a piece is a lot better, tell a person what to think and they will resist. The IKEA was the first stencil that is hand drawn, everything before that was computer editing etc. so it was a big leap in terms of a committed style.

The Chicken and the Egg: do you think of a work and then find a wall, or vice versa?

Both, sometimes I’ll see a spot and decide something might work there, but usually most of my work is site specific ie. A piece of advertising or signage. Considering that most of the stuff I do is stencils or paste ups is kind of hard to be spontaneous.

Any close shaves with disapproving citizens or higher authorities?

Yeah a few, it’s getting harder nowadays to evade since I’m getting older and a little slower. I’m very careful not to get caught, especially with this latest crackdown on graffiti etc.

Once got stuck behind a billboard 10m up in the air for a couple of hours while a few guys were drinking.

I eventually went ‘fuck it’ and politley asked them if they minded if I sprayed something on the face of the billboard, they were cool about and we had a laugh about it in the end when I told them how long I was up there.

D’you have a playlist you listen to whilst working? Any tune suggestions?

Don’t really get an opportunity to listen to music painting, the noise gets on my nerves and plus I like to listen to the flow of the can. If I were to play something usually 1980′s cock rock coupled with some Soulwax or a Fabric compilation.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnpHxrNbfOI]

* * *

Who should we keep an eye out for on the Sydney scene? Anyone overseas who we should be googling?

Umm, I don’t really follow other people’s stuff, but I do like SMC3‘s work.

How do you think Sydney’s street art compares to Melbourne’s?

Melbourne kicks ass. Sydney catching up but its hard when the Sydney City Council and the surrounding councils are not geared toward freedom of expression on walls etc.

Any Sydney walls with a high turnover?

Hahaha, any wall in Sydney that is painted council grey is usually an indication of a high turnover.

Last off, drop us a hint on any wall targets?

Just moved back to Newtown, so I’m planning to saturate the area with a heap of my crap. Plenty of billboards been planned at the moment for a FUKT facelift.

Long before Twilight was poisoning our cinemas screens and The Walking Dead was turning children into Zombies, artist’s like Francisco Goya and Salvador Dali were already harnessing our fascination with fantasy and horror so they could count those benjamins for themselves!

With Werewolfs, Vampires and Zombies being an ever popular hollywood cash cow. It’s no supprise that our fascination with the mysterious could not possibly go unappreciated by contemporary artists, most notably Nathan Menglesis.

Nathan Menglesis‘ sporadic scribbles give you a glimpse into the mind of a creative soul that uses pencil, computer and pen to toy with the three dimensional power of paper. Nathan’s drawings expel a sense of torment and a fascination with the undead that is rarely exhibited so delicately by artist of our era. While his nightmarish mixed media may be a tad too overwhelming to enjoy with the family, but he definitely draws you into the art with his intricate detail and fresh approach to one of the worlds most rehashed topic, Zombies.

Nathan Menglesis, is one of those artist you might want to get in on before each canvas jumps to $10,000 a piece. At worst, you will have a wonderful piece of art that will creep out children that enter your house until the day you die!

Thanks to the wonders of the modern era you can look at all of Nathans prints and have the chance to purchase them via his website.

Invest wisely.

LEGO are celebrating 50 years in Australia, and have recreated famous moments from the past 50 years that are instantly recognisable – even when made of LEGO.

Toy photographer aka the coolest guy in the world Mike Stimpson has photographed moments recreated with LEGO Minifigures from Maradona’s ‘hand-of-God’ in the 86 World Cup to Buzz Aldrin’s first steps on the moon, and now LEGO are inviting you to choose 10 of 25 Australian moments that will be recreated.

LEGO Australia has compiled a list of 25 of some of the most popular moments that have occurred in Australia since the arrival of the first LEGO brick, some 50 years ago.

Personally, I’m hoping 1988: The television wedding of Neighbours’ characters Scott and Charlene gets through. How the hell are they going to do the hair and outfits of the 80′s? Only voting and time will tell.

This is not to be taken lightly – the way we vote will reflect how we are seen in the LEGO Universe forever, so if you vote for Nikki Webster to be one of the top 10 moments – shame on you.

Voting is open from now until August 1, just head here to vote for the moment you’d most like to see in a LEGO universe, and then Mike Stimpson gets to recreate the top 10 before sharing his photographs with us all. Lucky.

It was Veks Vs. Teem. One of PRIMO!’s favourites, versus a young gun from Sydney with some super talent.

Last night, Secret Walls round two went off like a rocket, with people cramming into the Oxford Arts Factory to watch two extremely good artist go against each other to take out round two winning glory. Normally, I am super good at picking winners. There has been the odd occasion when I have gotten it wrong, but most of the time, I am on the money. Last night, was one of those days.

Both artists came out strong, with Teem making his stabs noticeable from the get go. Veks, kept his composure and, with his headphones on listening to what I am guessing was Waka Flocka Flame’s ‘Hard In The Paint’ on repeat, Veks paced himself with his killer robot art.

As the night progressed, the crowd began to get larger. I ended up situated myself next next to another Secret Walls artist Alex LeHours, and we began to speculate who would take it out.I got the feeling that Veks had Teem in the bag. His robot was completely off the chain, and Alex seemed to agree. Taking nothing away from Teem though, as his work was in-your-face badass shit. This was going to be a tight finish.

When the night was all said and done, and the announcement was made. Teem had taken it in a landslide. I ended up being wrong which was a good thing. Fuck I love Teem. He is such a cool dude.

From all the PRIMO! magazine team, congratulations to Teem win. Keep your eyes peeled for Secret Walls round three, where Ben Brown will be taking on Pudler

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMIN’S, BABY!!!

It’s no lie that I’m a sucker for all kitschy design.

If you collage the products I’ve documented recently, my house would have a mixtape coffee table, a vagina on the wall, Frank the coat hook, a devil lamp and now, benjamin pillows on my Eames lounge and ottoman.

I’m sure you can imagine my downright delight when I wandered into Above The Clouds and found these two rolled banknote-shaped pillows.

Kitschin’ ain’t easy and I’m sick to death [pun] of the Día de los Muertos Mexican shit. Ever looked at interior design blogs/everyone’s tumblr and wondered where they get all their cool stuff? Take note, friends.

The Ben Franks pillows are knitted in five different colours, and in no way resemble the tacky pillow cases you may have seen. The knitting creates a pixel effect when viewed closely, and are soft enough to nap on.

As if this isn’t all good enough – they’re soon producing the $100 Australian note.

YES PLEASE? Get them here.

Our friends over at Secret Walls are at it again, with the second round coming at you tomorrow night at the Oxford Arts Factory. This time around, PRIMO! magazine’s favourite street artist Teem is taking on Veks in a battle that we will definitely have our heads at. Doors open at 6.30pm, and if you want to go in the running to grab some tickets, all you have to do is go to our Facebook page, and like the photo of round one’s event. To double your chances, you can share the post. If you are lazy like us, just like the article.

Cannot get any easier than that!

If you’re a frequenter of Sydney’s inner west, you probably saw this tweaked bit of CBA advertising.

Couple of weeks back it was neighbour to Newtown’s ‘I Have A Dream’ mural. [I haven't driven along King Street since, but I imagine it's long gone now.]

I jumped off the bus to snap a shot – mainly ‘cos I’d nothing better to do. That, and I recognised the mark. FUKT.

You might’ve seen some of his other work: the IKEA stencil, the homeless ‘best we forget’, the censored David, a windup suit. Just pummel his name into google and a library will load.

Most probs you know CBA’s current CAN/CAN’T campaign with Toni Collette. FUKT’s poster isn’t the most outtta the box response, I mean, we’d all thought of the alternative 4 letter C-word ourselves – CBA meant us to. But man, how neatly did FUKT place it!

Not only does that wall get seen by 1000s of peeps daily, its next to the ‘I Have A Dream’ mural. Yes little capitalists, dream and you can succeed. I’m not sure whether this was his intention, but it worked well for me. My balance was down to a measly, ‘non-withdrawable’ $15 – thanks to CBA’s account fees – and there was this poster, giving Narev the finger on my behalf.

Anyway, I’ve folders and folders of different pieces and artist portraits, but the below shot is a favourite. It’s of a Lonely Station member, used to plug a past exhibition at the Museum of Sydney. They were showing the photography of Dean Sewell, who documented the Sydney based group’s work from 2003 to 2007. (The Lonely Station were the peeps who scaled the Sydney Opera House to paint NO WAR on its tip). Now, maybe it’s ‘cos I just reviewed ‘The Amazing Spider-Man‘, but the below portrait just yells Spidey. If you ignore the strap securing the dude, it’s your standard super hero silhouette against cityscape shot.

I read an article on Acid Midget about graffiti artist Slug. Or rather it was similar to this post, less of an article, more of a musing. Anyway, the guy commented on the lack of art from Slug this year, finishing with “all we can do is send hashtag love to this artistic Robin Hood. Tweet #getwellslug to all your peeps.” I like that he named Slug an artistic Robin Hood. It goes with my reading of the below pic – these kids are the city’s Spider-Men, slinking at great heights to deliver wicked art and cutting political commentary.

In short, FUKT and the like are our very own vigilantes, damned by the police and loved by the people.

Yesterday, the Australian Outback awoke to a delightful surprise, a life-sized LEGO Forest rising from the red soil.

I have a confession to make: One day I was busily scurrying through Martin Place in Sydneys CBD, and in my peripheral I saw something that resembled some LEGO.

I took a quick snap on my phone and kept running to make my train. Isn’t that the perfect example of how single minded the people of the CBD are? There could be a fucking fire, or indeed some giant LEGO and few actually take the time to stop to take notice.

Now, Western NSW’s Broken Hill have inherited the forest from July 2 to July 12. The iconic LEGO ‘pine’ trees scale 4 metres in height, and are accompanied by 15 flower sets. I hope they brought extra flowers – I always ended up with empty stems and missing flower tops presumably in the stomach of my 4 year old brother, at the time.

The LEGO Forest trees and flowers are 1:1 in ration replicas of the original pieces you played with and probably consumed at one point as a child. Of course, they’ve blown them up 66x bigger to make the magical play world a reality, and prevent everyone from stepping on them.

If you missed it in Sydney CBD don’t fret; the LEGO Forest is part of LEGO Festival of Play, a nine-month schedule of hands-on events and elaborate creations all set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the LEGO® brick in Australia. Check out the exhibition featuring the work of some of our favourite Aussie creatives!

You know how I always say: “Life looks so much better in black and white”? Well, now I have my chance to actually do it without going clinically colour blind.

Markus Gerke, a Berlin-based designer, has come up with a concept that may in fact one day make it on your face. A pair of instagram Instaglasses. Not sure what I mean by that? Just imagine what you see on your instagram becoming a more permanent fixture on your face via having filters on a pair of sunglasses. Crazy, right?

The instructions are relatively straightforward: activate the pre-set filters on the lenses by pressing the Insta button, snap pictures using a built-in 5-megapixel camera, then upload straight to Instagram. Can you imagine the photos you can take? This means you not only will never miss a shot, but you will also get to see life through all the filters available on Instagram.

As Gerke states: “Life is beautiful, even more beautiful with filters.”, and I have to totally agree. This will be a huge hit on the market if it takes off, but for now, it is only a concept. I wonder once this is created how much Facebook will pay for it.
